Hashbrown is waiting for you at Humane Society of Missouri - Longmeadow in Union, MO 63084. Meet Hashbrown! Hashbrown came to Longmeadow in 2023 as an owner surrender. He was extremely frightened of people when he arrived – so much so that he would tremble anytime someone entered his stall. When we were finally able to halter him, we found that he was suffering from severe dental neglect and had an infected tooth causing him immense pain. No wonder he didn’t want us near him! We weren’t too sure what happened in this young Mustang’s past, but we knew what his new future would bring – lots of care, patience, and love. Once we gained his trust, we were able to have him seen by our vet to treat his tooth and begin his much-needed dental care journey. Then, once his teeth were taken care of, we introduced him to our farrier. Again, he was terrified. It took months for Hashbrown to stand safely and calmly for our farrier, and some days he is still unsure, but we are very proud of how far this boy has come! Eventually, he was settled in enough to be evaluated by our trainers. In time, he was lightly started under saddle, but during early training we noticed lameness in his front left leg. Radiographs revealed a possible bone chip in the lateral side of his pastern, which our vets believed could be the source of the issue. Unfortunately, due to his troubled past, Hashbrown was not a tolerant patient during parts of the procedure of the lameness exam (specifically the parts that included needles), so we were unable to fully pinpoint the problem. Due to these soundness limitations he showed, he is best suited as a pasture pet. That said, if someone experienced wanted to pursue further training and veterinary work, he may still have potential under saddle with a professional trainer and, eventually, an advanced rider.Hashbrown is a reserved soul who takes time to build trust with his handler, but once a bond is formed, his intelligence and willingness to please sh
