Vija | 2-Year-Old Chihuahua | Shy Girl Learning to Shine Vija is a 2-year-old, 11-pound brown Chihuahua who is on a beautiful journey from timid wallflower to affectionate companion. When she first arrived in foster care, she was extremely shy—so much so that she would cower in her crate and run away when approached. But with time, patience, and the confidence she gained from the other dogs in her foster home, Vija has truly started to blossom. She now welcomes gentle pets, allows herself to be held, and will even paw at you for attention before rolling over to ask for her favorite thing: belly rubs. She’s a sweet, soft-natured girl who just needed a little time to feel safe, and watching her come out of her shell has been incredibly rewarding. Vija has a medium energy level and absolutely loves to play, especially when she’s chasing and zipping around the yard with other dogs. She particularly enjoys playing with smaller dogs and would do best in a home with smaller canine companions. She gets along wonderfully with both dogs and cats and takes a lot of comfort from her canine friends, so a home with another friendly, confident dog is essential for her continued growth. While she enjoys outdoor time, leashes are currently very scary for her, and attempts at walks can overwhelm her. Because of this, Vija will need a home with a securely fenced yard and a patient adopter willing to work slowly and gently on leash training at her pace.
