About Grizz (Alaskan Malamute) in Fairbanks, AK 99701

Grizz is waiting for you at Fairbanks North Start Borough Animal Control in Fairbanks, AK 99701. Grizz (A140279) is a 2-year-old AK Malamute x Doberman Pinscher mix who weighed 96.9pounds on intake! 07/06/26 Grizz was returned to the shelter because he was not a good fit for their home. Grizz was testing his boundaries and not meshing with his new family. He was said to be having frequent accidents in the home, getting into the cabinets/helping himself to snacks of all kinds, and getting into the trash. Grizz is a young dog and is looking for a patient owner who can help him adjust into his next home and work out all his quirks. In a prior home, it was noted that he had anxious tendencies and we encourage his next owner to reach out to a certified trainer or their vet on ways to help him. There are a lot of resources on positive training methods that Grizz would benefit from. Grizz was also noted to be a little unsettled by male strangers that would visit the home. He has not exhibited this behavior before, but please ensure you make appropriate introductions to new people. Grizz is a big boy, hoping to find his right fit. He can be a handful, but also has so much love to give! If you are interested in meeting Grizz, please let us know! 04/11/26 Grizz is back at the shelter because his most recent home did not feel they were the best fit for him after trying to make it work for months. Grizz can be anxious when left alone. He is looking for a home that is willing to continue working with him on training, including basic obedience and kennel training. Grizz is very food motivated, so he should adjust to positive reinforcement training easily! In his most recent home, Grizz was said to do well with kids and strangers. He was also said to get along with other dogs. However, he can play really rough, and he is a large dog, so make sure any introductions are done slowly and monitor for subtle stress signals in either dog that could indicate they are uncomfortable.
