Background: When we first heard about Ava she was in a kill shelter in TX. She had a horrible skin infection that covered most of her body. We knew we couldn't let her suffer like that so we arranged for her to be seen by a vet. The vet discovered that not only was she suffering from the skin infection, but to make matters worse, she was also positive for heartworm as well as a few other tick-borne diseases (which are common in the south when the dogs are not taken care of). We treated her skin infection, tick-borne diseases, and heartworm. A wonderful person came to the shelter every day to give her the necessary medications. What is so sad is that while in treatment, no one in TX offered to foster her. So despite how uncomfortable and painful the skin infection must have felt for her, she had to spend her days and nights on an old concrete kennel floor. Happily she has finished her treatments for the ringworm infection and h er skin is now healed and her fur has grown back. She has also finished up her painful heartworm treatmen
