Hightower: Not At Shelter is waiting for you at Friends of Campbell County Animal Control in Rustburg, VA 24588. We often have to do some sleuthing to find out more about the dogs and cats at the shelter, and that was the case with Hightower. He has been a temporary resident before, and we thought he would be reclaimed quickly, just like the last time. This time, no one came for him, or responded to phone calls, texts, or notes left on the door, so Hightower became Campbell County-eligible, and we are glad he did! He went straight to the vet the minute his hold time was up, and we discovered he is a strong heartworm-positive, which is not a good thing. We learned from tracking down vet records from past care that he is ten years old! We would never have guessed this special little guy was a "senior," as he has so much energy and loves to be active and part of the pack at his foster home. Treatment for heartworm is involved, but starts NOW, with 30 days of antibiotics, followed by two injections to kill adult heartworms over a three month period. Follow along and see how he does!
