In need of urgent rescue.This 2-year-old Chihuahua mix is in need of rescue placement due to significant orthopedic disease and mobility impairment. Radiographic evaluation revealed severe bilateral coxofemoral (hip) dysplasia and severe elbow dysplasia with marked chronic degenerative joint changes affecting multiple joints. Changes are advanced for age and are expected to require ongoing pain management, orthopedic consultation, and possible surgical intervention depending on specialist assessment.On physical examination, the dog demonstrates pelvic limb paraparesis and ataxia, concerning for concurrent neurologic involvement and reduced hindlimb function. Additionally, the dog is exhibiting moderate weight-bearing left thoracic limb lameness, likely secondary to the severe elbow dysplasia and associated degenerative joint disease.Due to the extent of orthopedic abnormalities, neurologic deficits, and anticipated need for advanced diagnostics, specialty care, and long-term rehabilitation, this patient would benefit from placement with a rescue partner capable of providing comprehensive medical and orthopedic support.Rescue placement recommended urgently to facilitate further workup, pain management, and definitive treatment planning.We do not have the resources available to care for this pet with these specific needs at this time.
