Sunny is waiting for you at San Jose Animal Care Center in San Jose, CA 95111. 06/02/26 16:07Sunny has a history of hindlimb (PL) ataxia first documented when she was a puppy, she now has intermittent PL ataxia and occasionally slips on slick surfaces. No orthopedic abnormalities have been documented during her exams and radiographs, she may have a congenital issue but cannot rule out early onset degenerative myelopathy which is a progressive, non curable disease. Seeking resuce placement as shelter environment and prolonged LOS not beneficial to her ambulation. 04/01/26 13:25Foster Family NoteWe had Sunny for a little over two weeks. She is great.Her intelligence surprised me the most. She's quick and eager to learn, and picked things up in a singlesession for each skill we taught her — sit, down, stay, wait, look at me, drop it, leave it. She taught herself to touch the doorknob with her nose to signal she wants to go outside. She's incredibly smart and keen. She takes time to settle into new spaces. She's hyper-aware at first — she'll spend a lot of time pacing, looking around and sniffing the same things eight times. But once she does settle in, she just relaxes. She wants to chew, she hangs out, she's calm in the house. She'll watch what you're doing with curiosity, come over for pets, and melt into the floor for cuddles.She loves to play tug. She waits politely at gates for her turn to get pets. She walks beautifully on the leash — she doesn't pull, and when she hits the end of the leash she comes back on her own. The first few days she tried to slip the lead a few times when she was scared, so we used a martingale or harness.I'll really miss training her. Training her is a joy. I'll miss her little vocalizations. Her high-value treat is mozzarella cheese — she likes hot dogs too, but she can be picky.She deserves someone who can help her be unafraid of the world, nourish her curiosity, and her love of tug.
