Dottie
About Dottie (Australian Cattle Dogblue Heeler) in Santa Cruz, CA 95062
Dottie is waiting for you at Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter in Santa Cruz, CA 95062. Meet Dottie, the herding breed adolescent. Dottie is an active girl looking to be someoneâs workout buddy. Weâre talking hikes uphill both ways type of activity. When understimulated, Dottieâs herding breed tendencies do come out and she can be mouthy. Mouthy is when a dog put their mouth on a person and/or their clothing (with or without pressure). This most often happens when animals are under-stimulated or overstimulated. Dottie will need that goldilocks approach to her day to day where her physical and mental needs are met with but she also is set up with an environment where she can get her naps and rest in. At the Shelter, Dottie has enjoyed playing with other dogs but can be tactile in her interactions. A home with another dog may be a great fit after a meet and greet at the Shelter. Small animals such as cats, rabbits and birds are not a good fit for Dottie as she has some observed prey drive. Dottie enjoys going for car rides and playing in the water â so she is ready to join you on your coastal California adventures. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them
