Name: Hassie Best Guess for Breed: Lab mix Best Guess for Age: 2.5 years old as of April 2026 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 41 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We have tested Hassie with some of the cats at the shelter, and she did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that Hassie could live with a cat, she has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack! We do not recommend her for a home with kids. Currently Living at: Shelter. Needs a foster home in the DC area to make the trip up! Special Adoption Considerations: Hassie is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now!
