Robo hamsters are the smallest domesticated hamster breed, and have a lifespan of 2-3 years with proper care. Princess Pickles was purchased from a Pet Store, and was in a home for about 3 months before being surrendered to the shelter, so she is an estimated 6-9 months old. Princess Pickles was surrendered because she would bite when handled in her home during the day and by children. Hamsters are nocturnal and can be fearful by natures. As Robos are the tiniest hamsters, they get spooked easily. Hamsters require gentle handling and patience to build trust, often through hand feeding or a slow introduction with scents and sounds of their new family. Princess Pickles would be a great pet for a hamster lover and has a beautiful, long life ahead of her. Princess Pickles is available for adoption from the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day.
