Penelope* is waiting for you at Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter in Santa Cruz, CA 95062. Penelope came to the shelter as a stray cat with a severe injury to her left hind leg. Unfortunately, the nature of the injury resulted in amputation. Our medical staff took time with her to heal her surgery site and she is now available for adoption. Due to her amputation, Penelope is required to be indoor-only for the rest of her long, beautiful life, as she cannot safely evade cars, navigate obstacles, or move about the world the same way a cat with four legs can. Penelope loves to sit in her fluffy bed, play with rolling balls with bells in them, and watching the world go by from a window or perch. She is easy to handle, and may do well in a home with another adult cat (she is not a fan of kittens) provided there is a thoughtful introduction. If you are looking for a young adult cat with a cool back story, Penelope is your girl.Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
